Default Gec bc5445

Yep, these wood-effect painted bakelite cabinets have been yapped about before, and no doubt will pop up again.
Got mine three weeks ago & it looked grim. Gently hoovered out with wee 12V car hoover, then removed dust & crud with Meths. Solution - CoOp "Nail Care" acetone free nail polish remover applied with 0000 fine wire wool. Then Twice rubbed down with "Farecla" Paste Compound. Then a final double polish with "Rustins" Scratch Cover/Polish (dark brown). Just used "Mr Sheen" multi-surface spray on the grill & the outside of the glass.
Internally, changed the B/T/S HT Dropper & the usual sus Waxies. Also replaced the two pentodes with tested NOS ones. Replaced the crap 2 core mains cable & fitted new 3 core(earthed the chassis), then PAT tested - Passed.

Regards, David

Well done!

I restored a BC5445 a few years ago, luckily the cabinet was already in good condition. It's a good looking and good sounding radio.

best regards ... Stef

that's a great improvement on the ones I've seen where the wood effect wears and makes them look so tatty. And better than covering the ends in fablon - which I've seen before!
