Default Baby wipes!!

While baby wipes are excellent for cleaning almost anything and brought up the chassis a treat - beware- it removes the white part numbers off valves….

The white printing on valves is often very easy to remove, even just by over-enthusiastic gripping with the fingers when trying to pull the valve out of a socket. If I care about it, which I usually do, I avoid touching the printing with anything at all.

Cheers,

GJ

Almost anything removes the lettering, I try to just use a dry duster but if I want to clean them I use cold water and try an unnoticeable area first, some are more robust than others. Same goes for the dial glass.

one of the reasons I keep my valves boxed and marked. If they're marked legibly now, it doesn't mean they'll stay that way! Valves pulled from sets of course should be more identifiable due to the service sheet

As the thread title is "Baby wipes"...

I was drawn to a stall on the local market a couple of years ago with several boxes of LP records. I quickly found a half dozen and proceeded to take them out of the inner liner to check for mould and scratches, upon which the stallholder said " they've all been cleaned"!

They were indeed clean and shiny. Too shiny. "How did you clean them" l asked.

"With these" he grinned. He then took the filthiest, mildewed Engelbert Humperdinck LP I've ever seen and proceeded to scrub it with a Lidl baby wipe until it was an oily, shiny sight to behold!

In the word's of a News Of The World reporter, " I made my excuses and left..."

It breaks the envelopes when you flush and the glass is hard to clear from the U bend...

Baby wipes are a great addition to the toolbox - they will clean lots of things other solvents can't - even that horrible decomposed rubber belt residue. Exactly why they don't dissolve babies is unclear.

I find those anti bacterial type kitchen wipes are excellent for cleaning items and if I don't want to add to landfill, then I also use microfibre cloths with kitchen surface cleaner, very effective.

Yes, baby-wipes are good for removing the nicotine-staining from cabinets/knobs/trim-panels etc too.

[But babies don't smoke so why are baby-wipes so good for this?]

I also always keep a set of "Q-tips" cotton-buds for cleaning accumulated grot out of difficult corners and orrifices.

To avoid the landfill problem, there are many brands that are biodegradable.

Be cautious though... I have used them to clean up clock cases and they have removed the lacquer on some!
