That looks like the same one I have Joe - I'm very happy with it and I hope you will be too.

What a great chrismas present

p.s. GBP is about 2:1 at the moment. Our money comes on rolls and hangs on the wall in the convenience.

For those of you who have joined the discussion a bit late and just in case you are interested and missed it early on in this thread, here's the link to the machine which is £169 on Amazon although I think it can be had a bit more cheaply if you hunt around. Joe seems to have found it for AUD229 which is about £126... a bargain.

Good grief! That is an onerous shipping charge.

Joe, try from China directly using AliExpress. I've found it for £75 gdb + £35 shipping to UK + 20% vat which is cheaper than Amazon (but 4 weeks delivery time)

Well it looks like the same deal is not available all over the world. Shame. By magic genie do you mean irrational bias? I've had loads of great stuff from AliExpress without any problem.

I tried the link and it appears in French here. However it looks like the thing that holds the record is available separately for €71.02, post free. If you already have an ultrasonic cleaner that would be a cheaper solution. Poking a pencil through the hole in the record and balancing it on the top of the bath would be even cheaper.

I would love to hear a Before and After with one of these. I mean will I really hear a difference on a fairly good deck e.g a REGA 3?

There's a link at the top of the page which allows you to select the language. Won't help with the shipping cost though!

Well, it depends on where you got your records from. A lot of mine come from estate sales. They run the gamut from pristine and possibly never played, to ones with finger prints and nicotine deposits.

A record cleaning machine deals with those a treat.

Just to add to Craig's comments, the first records I cleaned with my RCM were ones I'd bought new and cared for lovingly since purchase. In other words they'd only been out of their sleeves (including PVC outers) when being played and always kept free of dust. I was amazed at the improvement after cleaning with the RCM.

Another benefit I've found is that the RCM eliminates static which is one of the main causes of contamination. Once cleaned I use a carbon fibre brush each time a record is played in order to mitigate against static build up.

Like Craig I often purchase records from dubious sources and some are really soiled. Very occasionally I clean them twice but am always impressed by the results.

You really will hear the difference especially with a good quality deck/cartridge combination. I use a Denon 103.

Just to bring this thread down to earth (or below).
I have been given some older records with greasy fingerprints and dust on them.
I use a wet washing up sponge with one or two drops of fairy washing up liquid on it (the sponge side not the rough side) to wet the grooves, trying not to wet the label too much.
Then I use a Harris natural 3 inch, long bristle paintbrush to wipe (scrub?) round the record (back & forth) with the grooves 3 or 4 times.
Rinse under a cool tap.
Dry with freshly laundered towels.
Air for a few minutes to let the surplus evaporate. Then play & enjoy.
It really improves the sound a lot, is cheap and causes no damage.

Project deck with Ortofin cartridge.

Nothing wrong with careful hand washing of course. However, an RCM does produce audibly better results and a DIY vacuum machine doesn't have to be expensive.

Joe, I'm going to have one more try to see if I can help you get one at a decent price!

I have been looking on ebay Australia at item 174712973740 and it apears to be available for AU $224.89 with free postage. Located in Regents Park (OZ not UK).
See attached screenshot.

Fingers crossed,
Steve.
