Second attempt for me and another abject failure!
To much interference from somewhere, so had to fall back on the live stream, which isn't really quite the same is it? Ian |

Re: SAQ 17.2 kHz. 13 February 2023.
Hi,
Finally managed to receive SAQ from this location. Very poor signal though, - about 339, due to heavy QRM and using a quickly lashed up ferrite rod antenna. Kind regards Dave G0ELJ |

Re: SAQ 17.2 kHz. 13 February 2023.
Thanks for the Heads up Dave, unfortunately I only spotted your
post today, so I was more than a bit late out the Gate for this one! I've not managed thus far to receive SAQ and I guess this is down to my Antenna. I suspect I need something more tuned to the actual frequency required . I use a VLF Datong Convertor Clone which claims you only need a short antenna due to it's high sensitivity, but I've had no luck with SAQ. Do you have any further details of your Antenna arrangement? Good signal here in north Cheshire on a Wellbrook loop with extra LF amplifier.

Re: SAQ 17.2 kHz. 13 February 2023.
Hi Ian,
Sorry for the delay in replying. My antenna consisted of a pair of coils with a total inductance in series around 7 mH on a 1/2" former, with a ferrite rod 7mm diameter by 20cm long. The rod brought the inductance to over 40mH, and this was resonated to 17.2kHz with fixed capacitors and a 500pF polyvaricon for peaking. The rod was coupled to the Datong VLF converter with just a 6 turn winding at the end of the coil former, and then fed to the FT857. The coupling winding was a big letdown. In future I will use a more substantial winding on a separate former so that the coupling can be adjusted. A crude arrangement, but I have no external antennas. Kind regards Dave G0ELJ |

Thanks for the information Dave,
Do you have any Photos of your Antenna arrangement? At least you managed to get SAQ, which is more than I have managed so far. Ian |
