Default A clock that can't count

I recently noticed a problem with my pre-war Smiths electric "Westminster" clock - it can't count!

At seven, it strikes seven times.

At nine, it strikes nine times... which it also does at eight! It is only eight o'clock that's affected, all other times are okay.

Now... how on Earth can that happen?

The gathering pallet wheel pivot hole might be getting worn and needs a bush.
There are two versions of this clock - any chance of a picture of the front plate at 8:55?
