Default Thorn Ultra 6813

Hiya all,

I was wondering if anyone knows what year the Thorn Ultra 6813 was introduced? Trying to do some research and can find nothing online.

Kind regards,

Aidan.

Probably 1972 to 1976 when white cabinets became fashionable.
Ultra 6711 colour TV set was available white, bought a few in '76.

One of the last 24" Ultras was available in white or woodgrain - this was the one with varicap tuning and wedge shaped selectors in two banks of three. There was also a white mechanical tuner version with odd clunky buttons mounted at an angle with screwdriver slots to adjust which soon got chewed up.

Like Murphy and Rank, Ultra were the slightly more wacky versions of the 1500.

The later ill-fated 1615 sets were conservatively styled - in fact I only remember two cabinet styles, 20" and 24", printed wood-effect plastic. Only remember them as Ferguson.

Thorn seemed to have wound down the Ultra brand by the early 1980s, I think the earlier TX range were still branded as Ultras.

I presume most, if not all the Baird branded 1600 sets were scrapped when Radio Rentals withdrew them.

From 1977 Ultra replaced the Marconi brand for distribution of Thorn consumer products through wholesalers.
