Some explanation needed here!
I needed to transfer a 10" NAB spool of tape using my domestic Akai tape deck that would not take that size spool or indeed NAB spools at all. I had at my disposal two NAB/Quarter inch adapters so I glued them 'together' using a reel of cotton between them. In this way the NAB spool could be raised and loaded onto the tape deck, tape spooled off into the distance around a bottle of whisky (I kid you not) then back to the deck at the correct height to rejoin the existing tape path (all very successful) and I attach a photo of the set up. So I am offering here the two NAB adapters GLUED together by a large cotton reel between them which could either be used by another enthusiast with the same problem or I would imagine they could be carefully separated again with a lot of patience and ingenuity - but I cannot guarantee that. These seem to be quite expensive on eBay etc but I know I have to be realistic because of their current disposition. Does £10 inc P&P sound reasonable? Will run a hat if popular. Payment by BACs only please. |

I’m interested but would also like to know the glue used please? I imagine the top one will be ok since the cotton reel will be stuck to the metal ring underneath the adaptor. Also I bought one the same at Retrotechuk and would like a pair….
Many thanks, Peter |

If it's hot melt then there won't be a problem, but if it's Araldite...
![]() The Uhu contact adhesive doesn't make a particularly strong bond, so it should be possible to break it with a bit of leverage. |

Understood. To be clear, I have no interest in this, but was just curious.

The bottom one looks like the Revox ones.
Mount it up in a lathe and turn away the bobbin and glue. Small cuts, slow feeds. David

Heat separates most glues, hope you get them Peter.

No other interest so Peter they are yours.
In the meantime I applied a bit of pressure to them and the top one (the one you particularly want) pinged off nice and cleanly so that’s great news all round. I will pm you my details. Mods this thread can now be closed. Thank you. Last edited by red16v; 19th May 2022 at 8:56 am. |

Huh, what a coincidence. In the next few days I should be receiving a Tandberg reel to reel which takes NAB hubs, and it's only got one. I was planning to try 3D printing one (at this stage I don't mind about them looking perfect or matching).
Peter, if you're just interested in the top one to make a matching pair for your machine, I'd be interested in the other one. I was going to PM you about this but now that red16v has managed to separate them, it might be easier to send them in two separate lots? Alternatively if you had plans for both [edit: or if this complicates things unnecessarily], I will continue my original plan of 3D printing a second one for my machine when it arrives.
