Forum Closing for Server Move 02/03/2022
This website will be closed from 10:25am (GMT/UTC) on Wednesday 2nd March for moving to a new server.
The actual move is starting at 10:30am but I am closing it at 10:25am to allow time to take a database backup first. I will add a prominent notice on every page an hour or so before the closure. A suitable message will also be displayed while the move is carried out. I estimate that the move will take around an hour but it is difficult to say because it is a very large website with lots of small files (post attachments). Once it is moved I will update the DNS so web browsers find it on the new server. These DNS changes then need to propagate around the internet so the local DNS servers with your internet providers etc catch up with the change (I am setting things to try to make this happen as quickly as possible). Due to the nature of DNS propagation it is likely that some people will be back before others. I will close this thread for now, and will reopen it on the new server once the move is completed for any comments or issues etc. |

This works starts in one hour. My service data website will also be offline as it is being transferred at the same time. None of my other websites will be affected this time.

Re: Forum Closing for Server Move 02/03/2022
The move is now completed and we are back open. It may be a while before everyone is here due to DNS propagation.
If you find any problems that are new now (and didn't happen before the move) please post here. |

Thank you everyone. It seems more responsive to me, which is something I was hoping for with this move too.

Hi
The search index doesn't seem to be updated yet. A search with a given keyword, say TV22, will not return the same results as before the move. - Helder |

That is probably an issue with Google Custom Search. The Google web crawlers may not have rebuilt the site's indexes yet. It should all sort itself out eventually.

Re: Forum Closing for Server Move 02/03/2022
OK here.
I agree with Paul and it seems to be running a tad faster - or am I more awake today Maybe when Paul had the site down he quickly replaced the decoupling and coupling caps in the site to ensure a smooth operation in the future Terry |

Maybe...
Actually it's due to LiteSpeed rather than Apache web server, and NVMe SSDs, on a modern cloud hosting package that's built for speed - this one https://www.guru.co.uk/reseller-hosting-pro |

Never felt a thing It does seem quite solid Paul but what do I know anyway Windows 10 has often seemed shaky here. After managing to crack the the computer screen as well, I'm still using it as before but with the TV screen commandeered by "Computer Ian" my life saver!

Re: Forum Closing for Server Move 02/03/2022
It certainly seems super quick and responsive from here, not that it was ever lagging in that department... but it's really super slick and quick just now. Noticeably so and most impressive.

Re: Forum Closing for Server Move 02/03/2022
I was very impressed when I set up a test forum on the server over the weekend, and am very pleased it’s continuing this way with the normal level of users etc.

Re: Forum Closing for Server Move 02/03/2022
I needed to log in again and request a password, but that was probably due to me swapping PC's over, and nowt to do with the Forum, which seems to be even faster now!
Nice job,Paul.
