Default HMV1360 issue.. . Distortion.

Hi guys.. Just wondered if anyone else has come across this problem?
I've repaired an old HMV 1360 which is /was working fine but now seems to have developed distortion when you try to turn up the volume.. Left alone at a constant volume it's fine but when you try to turn it up it will distort until it settles down again at the new volume.. I thought it would be something to do with the audio output biasing or a duff volume control but the curious thing is that I have another identical set that does the same(and I haven't delved inside this one yet so nothing I have done to it).. Is it a design fault or me?

Unlikely to be a design fault. If you have a copy of the Radio & TV Servicing datasheet the following component numbers refer to that. If not you can get one here https://www.service-data.com/product...69/3697/a12769. The manufacturer's datsheet is also available here https://www.service-data.com/product...96/3697/m18896 but the component numbering might be different. A possible cause is a leaky C20 (0.05uF) one end of which is connected to the slider of the volume control. If it hasn't been replaced already then change C23 (0.1uF) one end of which is connected to the anode (pin 2) of V3 DH142. Also check R13 (10M) one end of which is connected to the grid (pin 3) of V3. Sometimes these high value resistors go open circuit. Jerry
