Yes I put it on a chicken's foot stand, painted it combat green and bolted an EMI 3/1 onto the top of it. Of course I let the air in first.

This chassis was kindly presented to me by another Forum member. [Thanks Tony] The original cabinet was beyond recovery due to damp and woodworm. Unfortunately I don't have the mask or glass but this can be overcome.

I do have all the knobs and the side panel but no back. Again this should not be a problem. The 100 and 200 series backs are similar and I've always said, if you wait long enough, it turns up! regards, John.

I don't normally collect chassis but with CRT's becoming rare I have a few, anyway it's
a good project. I believe the glass was a grey tint laminate on these, good Mullard tube. I have limited space so 110 degree sets are preferred here.

Found in the local B & Q store a 2400mm strip of wood which is ideal for the front outer edges of the cabinet. A rebate will be cut into the inner edge of the top and side panels so that wedge shaped strips can be attached to the outer strips.

The inner front trim strip is test fitted.
A similar piece will be made for the right side. These are the parts that will keep the safety glass window and loudspeaker baffle in their respective positions.

I'm surprised you discovered that wood at your DIY store. The few that remain around my area prefer to sell toys and other non related items. Great work so far David. Regards, John.

I am really surprised that no one has yet set up making vintage style cabinets already repurposed as drinks cabinets/fish tanks/etc. Then perhaps old TV's would not be sold for repurposing.

Perhaps I needs to get into woodwork!

Your are doing a good job there David.

Making good progress. The three front sections have been made and are ready to have the top left and right corners mitered but the angles are slightly more than 90 degrees so great care will be needed to do that task.

Glasnost: This is my second attempt to glue the top section to the side panels. The first attempt was not successful because the correct angle between the panel was not achieved, it was too close to 90 degrees.
This time I think I've got it right, gravity is helping to position the panels to the correct angle. Leave it for twenty-four hours to allow the Gorilla glue to set.

The cabinet is beginning to resemble a Ferguson 991T. The side and top wood strips have been mitered and fitted into position. The cutouts for the loudspeaker baffle will need attention, that will be done after the cabinet floor has been fitted.

WOW! That certainly looks like a 991T David. I will have to give the chassis a new serial number. 0001DB..John.

For the cabinet back cover battens glued into position.
15 X 15mm wood strips from B&Q.

The object in the background is the shelf for the timebase and receiver units in the Baird T5, more about that later.

Before you do any holes in the side perhaps John can say f he has the side piece for the controls or not, if not they may be best done by john as three separate holes fitting what ever knobs he has?

Looks good, perhaps I will go after that V250!

I have the side panel and all the knobs. That really does look like a 991T cabinet David.
Quite remarkable.
David has the skills to make an elaborate cabinet from just a control knob and a picture of the cabinet as a pattern.
It's all about measurement comparison techniques apparently. Regards, John.

You will need the A7-T licence plate to show royalty was paid on the valve patents.

Corner pieces added to stiffen up the cabinet. The whole structure is now very strong and resists deformation.

The correct loudspeaker for the 991T is one that has a frame size of 7 X 3 3/8 inches. Unfortunately, the 'speaker shown in the attachment has a 20 ohm speech coil.

That looks very impressive David.
I'm sure I have the correct size speaker. I have a number wrapped in plastic and screwed to the wood supports of the ceiling in my workshop. They are so easily damaged.
Regards, John.

Found the perfect loudspeaker for the Ferguson 991T.
That huge 24" KB PV100 I acquired almost two years ago has the loudspeaker we're looking for. It was always my intention to fit a larger 'speaker in the custom made cabinet, there's plenty space on the baffle to do so.

A template has been made for the safety window. The 6mm glass plate is slightly tapered at the top to follow the shape of the cabinet.

Along with the correct loudspeaker I've found the cloth for the baffle.

Tygan, is that the name for this material?
