Default Scratched aluminium surfaces

WE have some black and silver aluminium cased items that may be coming our way with like marks and or scratches(Assumed light) any advices of possible soft touch cleaning or polishes that might help to repair or clean up?

Hmmm ...

The 'silver' aluminium may be 'mirror' finish or 'brushed' - and either way may also be lacquered [the latter to prevent tarnishing]. Any lacquer is likely to be cellulose-based and will require careful removal [certainly if present in the scratched areas] - this will require the use of cellulose thinners or careful abrasion with fine wet or dry paper ..... both of which you don't want to get onto any other adjacent surfaces.

Mirror-finished aluminium surfaces can be restored using a fine rouge-based metal cutting/polishing paste e.g. Solvol Autosol possibly utilising a cotton bud[thereafter de-greased and any formerly present lacquer re-applied].

Brushed aluminium surfaces can be restored using a new bone-dry green foam kitchen scouring pad - moved in the same direction as the existing brushed 'grain'.

Black aluminium surfaces could be anodised or painted. Repairing the former is a specialised [AKA expensive] electrolytic process - whereas the latter merely requires the judicious application of matt/semi-matt/satin or gloss paint.

Hope this helps.

Hello I dont know if this may be of any help, its about blacking aluminium, Birchwood Casey does a alumimium blacking liquid used for air guns etc. It does work very well, worth a look I think.
Best of luck.
Cheers. Geoff.
