Default BVWS Golborne Manchester meet Sun 30 Oct

Sunday 30th October is the BVWS swapmeet/jumble at Golborne, just west of Manchester.

http://www.bvws.org.uk/events/locations.php

If you'd like a stall there are still some spaces available, contact Mark Ryding as per contact details in Bulletin/BVWS website.

Doors open at 10 (stall holders 9.30). The usual variety of stalls selling vintage Radio, Television, Audio, Communications receivers, Test gear, Valves, Components, Spares, etc. Ample free parking, hot and cold refreshments available. The BVWS stall will be there selling the usual range of capacitors, Deoxit, etc.

Keith (KeithsTV) will be giving a demonstration/talk on using the oscilloscope - I'm sure he'll follow on to tell us more....

40s/50s/60s 405 line working TV display, courtesy of Russell.

If you have one or two items you'd like to sell, the 'Bring and Buy' stall is where you can sell them at 10% commission to the BVW&TV Museum.

The stores are bursting at the seams again, so there'll be a huge variety of bargains overflowing from the BVWS table, everything must go!

If you're not a BVWS member, why not come along for a sample visit? You'll be made most welcome and you can even take the plunge and join on the day if you like what you see! Credit/debit card payments taken at the BVWS stall.

See you there....

Thanks for the heads-up. Being usually in November, this has crept up on me unawares, but I hope to be there as usual.

Hi Folks, I'll see you all there. Try and find a name badge so we call all easily identify each other.

Margaret, Mickey Mush's widow will also be there in her usual place with a stall of goodies.

I'll be dropping off a selection of data books to members as well as picking up and dropping off transformers. PM me if you have any wants

As Greg said I will be demonstrating the use of an oscilloscope at Golbourne. I had hoped to use the room I used for the previous talks but this is unavailable so I'll be trying a different approach.

A table has been reserved and I will be demonstrating the use of an oscilloscope, in particular setting up the controls to get a usable display. I've also got a demo board where I can show the use of a scope to follow a signal through an amplifier.

I'll also be offering to show people how to use their oscilloscopes if they bring them along. This is a bit of an experiment, so you'll have to bear with me if it doesn't go as well as planned! If you do want to bring your oscilloscope please let me know by PM that you'll be bringing it to the event and let me know what type of scope it is and most importantly bring along the mains lead and any probes that came with it.

I have a set of notes written assuming I would be able to use the small side room and I'll post these on the forum after the event.

I'll see if I can make it, I've had a few busy weekends recently.

Just a reminder that we're looking forwards to seeing many of you this Sunday at Golborne!
With the clocks going back the night before it's an extra hours lie in beforehand - so we're expecting everyone to arrive bright-eyed and bushy-tailed!

This event is a jumble with displays and demonstrations, we don't run an auction, so it's best to arrive in time for opening at 9.30, as usually by mid afternoon it quietens off...

See you there!

Doesn’t it actually open for customers at 10am Greg?

Always a good day out so I’m going and 60 oldjohn has a table there.

Looking forward to it and then collecting a radio from Mikey66 at his home.

Peter

Yes as Peter says, I will be there, with some bargains, including Cramolin Freezer Spray, and Brasso polish cheap but in limited supply.

John.

Oooops! Yes, 10am, my bad... However we often let folk in before slightly before 10 to browse, but strictly no trading until 10am when the meeting is declared open by yours truly!

Thanks for the confirmation Greg.

I’m sure Keith’s talk on ‘scopes will be a very useful addition to a great day out. Hope to find out about the things I feel too ashamed about to ask on here!

I'll be demonstrating on how to use a scope rather than giving a talk this time as the side room is unavailable. The demo will be in the main room and I'm aiming to start around 11am. This will give me a chance to have a look round before I set it all up. I'll be going over the controls on a typical scope and how to set them up to get a stable display.

You don't have to stay for the whole demo and can ask questions at any time.

See you on Sunday.

STOP PRESS!

I've just had a call from the hall at Golborne, due to low staff levels the kitchen will not be open this Sunday, so please bring your own snacks and beverages.

Apologies but this is beyond our control and we're unable to put in place any alternative arrangements for refreshments at such short notice.

But still looking forwards to a good meeting...

Greg, to your knowledge are there any cafes or takeaways (Greggs etc) within walking distance that will be open?

I've got dozens of old electronics and computer magazines from the early days of computing, late 70's / early 80's.

There is a mix of Wireless World, Your Computer, Personal Computer World, BYTE, ETI, Elektor etc..

I know all these are now available as archives on the internet, but thats not the same as browsing through a real bit of paper.

The mags are not in pristine condition, but I'm loath to just chuck them in the recycle bin.

Would it be OK if I brought them to Golbourne, and let someone else decide whether to bin them or not ?

Cheers,

Buzby

It looks like I won't be able to make it, I'll be helping my sister in law sort out a house she's renting on Saturday & will probably need all of Sunday to rest after a very busy week.
