Bush RP-50 project turntable not moving
Hi all
This week I picked up an old Bush RP-50 record player from a charity shop as I loved the look of it and might be a fun project to clean up. I have plugged it in and it powers up but the turntable won't spin. Now I have removed the turntable and the motor is spinning but the idler wheel seems to me does not do anything its just floppy and not touching anything. I am used to modern (1980s) turntables being belt driven I have searched around and found a youtube video but did not touch on the idler wheel so a little bit of advice/help would be much appreciated. Many Thanks in advance |

Re: Bush RP-50 project turntable not moving
With the platter off, the idler will not touch anything. With platter correctly replaced the idler presses against the inner rim of the platter and is driven by the stepped speed spindle coming from the motor. Whilst dismantled, clean the inner rim, the idler's edge and the stepped spindle with IPA.

Might be a spring missing or the pivot spindle solid with dried up old lubricant, although if it's 'floppy' then it sounds more like a spring issue.

Re: Bush RP-50 project turntable not moving
I suspect you maybe are just hearing "stylus chatter" with no amplification at all.
Cartridge issues?

Do a forum search for buzz test. This will indicate whether you have a cartridge problem or an amplifier problem as a first pass.
