Philips CD160
I have a Philips CD160 bought new back in the stone age. I has worked fine and outlived at least three other CD players in my house and according to a note left inside it in by myself in 1994 (!) I changed a couple of transistors and it's been fine since. Until recently that is, now there is a persistent hum in the background which would die away after about 10 minutes but now it's permanent. First stop is to change all of the capacitors in the power supply section but that made no difference. Any suggestions anyone?

Re: Philips CD160
May well be a regulator problem. There are usually one or two in the power supply somewhere, typically 7812, 7815 or a 7915, (for a negative supply) something like that anyway. I had a similar problem many years ago with my CD207. It might be mounted in free air or have a heatsink. If the latter, make sure you use fresh heatsink compound.
