Default IFT & coil core locking

For those of you that indulge in radio repair and the like, I have seen a lot of requests as to what to use for core locking when adjusting loose cores.
Idly talking to my lady wife about this problem and what I had seen used in the past, she suggest "Shirring elastic" available from haberdashers, Amazon and the like.
She pulled out a roll for me and it is perfect about 0.5mm dia with cotton covering. Fits nicely between core and former.
If I am teaching you all to suck eggs - sorry!
