Default Does anyone know....

Where to look for an original phonebox type pay telephone?

My friend is looking for a BT/GPO original payphone to go in his nice red box.

He reckons the coin slots were 2p and 10p...

I said they were 3d and 6d....

What about a button A button B type??

Haha

Cheers Guys.

1d! I still have a load of those somewhere, along with 1/2d, 3d, 6d, 1s, 2s, 2/6 and a coupla 1/4d and 5s. I must get them on Ebay sometime..

There's 1d prize for the first person to name all their more common names....

The Model numbers, 14D for a button A-B type or 705 for 'later' type Pay Phones appear to be what we need to look for.

Haven't found any sellers yet tho...

You'll almost certainly find something at the NVCF on 9 May, but beware... old telephones seem to command extraordinarily high prices

ha'penny, thrupenny bit, tanner, shilling, florin, halfcrown (half dollar), farthing, crown.

Got a bit confused about what on earth a one and fourpence coin could be until the penny dropped about a farthing out of sequence

I always regarded 'thrupenny bit' as a peculiar Southern affectation.
What was wrong with threpenny bit?
Florin, although the word existed, was hardly ever iused - it was 'two bob'.

Well now that everyone's given their two bobs worth (or should that be florin's worth)

Time to hang up on this line.
