Default Sky hooks needed.

Hi all.
I'm thinking of making a drop-down shelf (if I'm allowed!) that would accommodate my Dansette record player. I want it on the wall to isolate the shelf from our wooden floors and probably hinged so it can be stored flat against the wall. Has anyone made anything like this, possibly with a dual purpose e.g. becomes something else when stored upright?
It's just that most of our sideboards or chests-of-drawers aren't deep enough to get the record player's feet on and the wall gets in the way when opening the lid.
Thanks.
Dave.

If you want to make your own fold-down flap 'shelf' rather than buy a ready made one you can get spring -loaded folding brackets quite cheaply. They'll hold 540kG each so just one bracket would take the weight, but two brackets - one towards each end of the shelf would make more sense. They're neat, unobtrusive and cheap. Here's a link, where you can also watch a video of how they operate:

(They may even stock something similar at B&Q/Screwfix - I haven't looked).

Hope that might be of interest.

And the other side could be a painting!

Thanks for the inspiration chaps. So I can either buy one (never thought of that!) or get creative with those brackets. I think it's going to be a bit low to disguise as a painting but certainly, camouflage is a option. A poster of a vintage radio perhaps...

"They'll hold 540kG each"
David, is that after you have re-engineered them? !
Look interesting though.

(If you want to be cheap (who, me? ) you could do it like a gate-leg table, and hinge a support out from the wall which is hidden by the shelf when 'down').

If you need a sky-hook, Google for Tensegrity Shelf

No-one ever does, but in principle you could sit the record player so it has one side, rather than its 'rear' face, parallel to the wall. It'll depend, among other things, on which way the speaker points.

Cheers,

GJ
