Default What is it ?

I was given this project box years and recently had a look inside. There are three red spot transistors in it, a push button , a 12 pin connector, ...I think a battery connector at the back. Can anyone suggest what it was?

I would also say a timer, possibly a photographic (Darkroom) timer? They were a staple magazine project at one time, along with Slave Flashes, and other photography related gizmos.

Only thing against that theory is the lack of adjustability, but it looks as though more resistors have been added to one which was obviously originally fitted flush on the board, maybe to fiddle a precise timed period.
