Pre-war aerial cables
Okay, in a past thread on pre-war aerials I appended a picture of the heavy-duty coax and plug used with my pre-war EMI receiver, but what was used with other makes? A balanced feeder maybe? What sort of socket (if any) did other pre-war sets have ?

Re: Pre-war aerial cables
Hi Steve,
My Pye 838 has an RCA phono plug for the aerial socket and the Ekco models TA201 and TS701 are fitted with standard Belling-Lee coaxial aerial sockets. The aerial socket on the Pye looks original which leads me to think that 1/4 or 3/8 inch diameter co-ax cable must have been available before WW2. In the case of the two Ekco TVs, the co-ax sockets might have been fitted post-war. DFWB. |

Re: Pre-war aerial cables
Thanks for sharing the picture Steve, what an incredible cable!! The 703 has a very similar cable inside the set to the TRF unit and also the radio chassis. Talk about well made!

Re: Pre-war aerial cables
Hi Steve,
Here are three pictures of the interior of the Pye 838 showing the chassis mounted phono socket and the pre-war aerial cable. The cable connects to another phono socket which is fitted to the inner right side of the cabinet. DFWB. |

Re: Pre-war aerial cables
Our Pye 817 and 815 have the same RCA antenna connector:
