Well the quick fix by glueing and using heatshrink sleeve did not work. In the meantime I've found a UK manufacturer of flexible couplings (Huco) who do a 1/8" to 1/8" coupling that looks like it might fit the bill nicely.

So the Huco coupling arrived in the post today. The bore of the coupler is 0.125 inch, whereas the Tek one is 0.127 inch, so a very gentle few strokes with a needle file on the shafts were necessary to get it to fit. After that the coupler all worked nicely.
