Television Today magazines
Hi.
I was given six "Television Today" Magazines, they were published by George newnes and are mint, they would appear to be from the early 30's. I would like more info on them though as I cannot seem to track them down on the net. Any help would be appreceated. Trevor

Re: Television Today magazines
This is interesting Trevor as I am currently negotiating with David Simpson [Aberdeen] on here re two volumes of Television Today 1935 [presumably a bound edition of the same]. Will they include the glorious covers that you illustrate in your post I wonder? Dave W

Re: Television Today magazines
hello Dave,
'Television Today' volumes 1 and 2 have a similar hard back cover to the familiar Newnes servicing books. sadly I only have volume 2 but maybe someday volume 1 will turn up. As far as I am aware they have little resemblance to the Television Today magazines. Just a point so you are not disappointed. fantastic books all the same. Hope you enjoy them. Regards, John. |

Re: Television Today magazines
Thanks John. David says that FJ Camm is a contributor to the articles in the books which is one of the things that led me to draw a comparison between the two [eg Newnes]. On reflection your are right, one is a weekly mag and the other a composite of state of the art essays. Thanks for that, Dave W

Re: Television Today magazines
Hello,
I think that it is a set of part work magazines that you bought each week and then had bound into books if you wanted. Newnes did a series called "Complete Wireless" which was like this. If you look at the top of the magazines you will see it says "To be completed in about 16 weekly parts". I think the books are just bound sets of the magazines, in the publishers bindings, in two volumes. Yours, Richard Last edited by Mr Moose; 13th Dec 2009 at 9:11 pm. |

Re: Television Today magazines
Hi Guys.
Here is a picture from pages 442/443 from part "10" of the magazine. They seem to be the same as the bound volume even down to the page numbering, I believe the mag came first then the bound volume. Cheers Trevor

Re: Television Today magazines
Guys, The two Volumes that I've put a post in the "For Sale" Forum are identical to the picture provided by "Heatercathodeshort" - John.
Volume 1 for example has about 30 scientists/engineers in the contribution list. Regards, David ps Dave Walsh has the details of exact dimentions & weight of the volumes Last edited by David Simpson; 13th Dec 2009 at 10:57 pm. Reason: Aditional ps |

Re: Television Today magazines
Hi.
I have received an E-mail to say these mags are quite unusual and are definately the forerunner of the bound volume, the full complement are sought after, pity I only have six, though at least three appear to be unused. Quite a find I would think. Cheers Trevor

Re: Television Today magazines
I got my copies of the bound version from Abe books (www.abebooks.co.uk) some time ago. I just had a look and they do have some currently. It may however be difficult for John to find Vol. 1 by itself!

Re: Television Today magazines
Hi Barry.
I had a look and the the person that sent the E-mail i received earlier on offered me double the price I saw for the 6 I have. Funny I didn't even think of the value, I was really wondering about the year they were published (mags 1934) and if anyone else had them. Phew. Cheers Trevor

Re: Television Today magazines
Thanks Barry, I will have a look at a few booksellers sites. Interesting. I managed to find Vol 2 at a scout jumble sale in 1958. I think I paid 2d for it! Being such a vile child I thought it was very much out of date then and regretted wasting my money... Very interesting now of course. When I drive past that 1930's church hall in Morden Surrey I always smile. The delights I carried home from that wooden floored hut! [Get rid of some of that junk before you bring any more home] Happy Days. John.
