Default Fats Waller on BBC TV in 1938

A nice photo of Thomas "Fats" Waller being televised at Ally Pally in 1938. You will probably need to scroll across to see the picture.

Elsewhere on the site are dozens of other interesting early gems:-

Great cartoon! Thanks for the link. Fats Waller also features in Swing Wedding (1937). I have a poor VHS copy and there are several references to it on the net but I can't find anywhere to see it on line.

Fantastic music! I play his 78's often on the 800. 'My very good friend the milkman' and 'Shortnin bread' are my favourites. Its difficult to imagine the scene today but picture the setting. You live in a large country house in the rural Home Counties. Just after tea you lift the lid of you HMV 900 and switch it on to be entertained by Fats Waller at the piano, live from London. It must have been magic and always will be to me!
Regards John.
