Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
And such attention to detail that they've mis-spelled "STROMTANK" at the bottom of the "technology" page. Now if they could master the challenge of spelling their own name ...

You're all missing the point.
They're big and impressive and have a massive green-lit analogue meter on the front. I'd have one purely for this reason. |

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Does this mean my battery powered (primary cells only) radios sound superb? In order of sound quality (best first) Valve portables, germanium transistor ones, old school analogue silicon jobs, and finally the DSP type. The valve ones all have single ended pentode outputs, that must be the reason.
Back on topic (!!!) I have a (or should that be an?) UPS for my servers/router, does that mean my streamed video/audio to a laptop in a power cut is better? |

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Ha ha - well said. I have an APC UPS that keeps the PC, NAS drive, router and modem alive during power cuts. It has enough capacity to run everything for 40 minutes.
Mind you, the APC puts out a load of garbage. If I'm doing anything that needs a quiet environment I have to switch it off. And the central heating - because that squirts a load of garbage into the environment too. Makes doing measurements in the Winter a real freeze-fest Craig |

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
I'm not against the concept of a glorified UPS for audio use, or that it pinches its appearance from another piece of equipment.
What is a more difficult thing to justify is the price. Although on the other hand if you can actually sell the things for those eye-popping prices, and there is enough market for them, why not? In an alternative universe, the Stomtank is small beer. https://www.livingvoice.co.uk/lv-bat...er-supply.html . And if you have to ask the price, you can't afford it. Craig |

Here you go - the guy behind Living Voice https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload...ature=youtu.be . At least it's British through and through.

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Can they get audiophile-grade distilled water for topping them up? The Living Voice cells appear to be vented.
UPS systems are quite well trampled territory and should reduce sound effects from mains transients, long referred to as 'fridge clicks'. There are other ways of engineering good isolation from such things. The mains is a rather dirty environment and a UPS could well do some good, unlike magic mains cables. As Craig says, it's the ludicrous price that makes them, well, ludicrous. I've got doubts about some of the claims as well. Wonder how well the Tesla powerwall battery bank would be rated? David

Another wacky company. At least their products have a striking, steam-punk appearance

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
I suppose as an extra cost option they could hire D-LZZR to deliver them, just to complete the experience.

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Heavy water? Surely not… deuterium isn’t safe, is it?

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
I think it's OK as long as you don't bash it into tritium at speed. Deuterium accounts for about 0.02% of all hydrogen, so there's a fair bit of heavy water in the oceans.
Cheers, GJ

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Hello gents,
I got to admit reading this thread is great fun! But honestly, what does one need to smoke to believe all the marketing tales? I almost cannot stop shaking my head when I read about the valve "Siemens Ed" being referred as the "Holy Grail" offered at ill prices. It's a simple triode, nothing else. Regards, Joe |

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Striving for rational excellence is admirable, but perfectionism that lacks perspective can be distinctly unhealthy. Whilst it's easy to snigger at some of the more outlandish stuff, I do sometimes think that a degree of pity is more appropriate for those who find themselves persuaded to spend thousands in pursuit of bizarre, mystical babble.

I just hope their families don't suffer as a result of the expenditure on fairy dust.
