Price of Ferranti wreck in smart boutique !
Could this be a record? I saw the bakelite cabinet of a Ferranti 637B in a smart "boutique" in Cirencester going for 180. I asked, "Is that 180 pennies?" "No, 180 pounds," came the reply. Yes, £180 !!
It was just the shell of an Art-Deco style Ferranti. It had a very tatty back, no speaker and the chassis had been stripped of every component except the tuning condenser. There was nothing left - no resistors, caps, valves or wires - nothing except the switches and knobs ! "It could be restored," said the nice lady, who added that she did have an interested customer who was willing to pay that amount of money. I am calling there again on Friday to tell her what I think it's really worth. Can I have some polite suggestions, please!

All depends o how much you are wiling to pay .If you had a good set with a smashed cabinet then it would be worth £60 i recon but as it is without any materials to restore what s there its not really worth much prob £20 at the most as a decorative item

Re: Price of Ferranti wreck in smart boutique !
I would be willing to give them a few quid for it - it would make a fun cabinet to build a "modern" set into. I suspect that's what someone had started doing. Or maybe it was used as a prop in a play, the other bits having been removed to keep things as light as possible.
But how much? Maybe £20 or so. I suspect it would fetch a little more on eBay, as somebody could use it to restore another set with a damaged cabinet. But £180 is totally unrealistic for anyone with any common sense Nick. |

Hi
I have a 637B (I think, jelly mould case, battery set). Mine is missing the back and speaker. Nice set, but battery so got to make a converter to run. Case and chassis only - £20.00, mostly so i can have the back for mine. Richard.
