No, the PP series were all for powering transistorised audio devices. The gas lighting cell was the U14.

I think you're referring to a flag cell. Used to operate the "flags" on a servant bell board.
That's the type, I am certain I have seen them powering Intruder Alarms, in the past.

The 'Flag' battery originally had a Union Jack flying on the label. This must be one of the last produced.
I think one was used to power the valve filaments in a Murphy [?] portable radio around 1947 and they were certainly used in the 'Clarion' commercial burglar alarm. J.
