Cool East German Koronette Stereo Help

I've got my hands on a 1967 (pretty sure of the year) Koronette Stereo/bar/fireplace/record player. I understand these are from East Germany.
The lights in the unit light when plugged in, but I can't seem to get power to the stereo/record player. Not sure if it's a matter of missing cords or what. Was hoping someone would have some thoughts about this or better yet can point me in the direction of finding resources to know better what I'm looking at (and need to do to get it up and running). Thank you in advance.

I can spot three glass fuses adjacent to the voltage selector. are they all intact? You can inspect them visually, but continuity testing with a meter would be better.

The voltage selector appears to be set to 110V. I'd have thought 127V would be more appropriate for use on US supplies. This won't be the cause of your problems though.

Do the valves (tubes in US speak) light up? You may have to view them in the dark.

Does the turntable or its motor make any attempt to rotate?

Well, the deck is not German! It's a BSR C137 from circa 1970. Maybe it got replaced.

Consoles such as this one were sometimes manufactured by furniture makers or importers using various foreign components. The BSR could in theory be original.

For a schematic of the radio/amplifier chassis, search for the number on the chassis label. This will probably turn up some information, though not on how it is connected to the record player etc.

This is an odd one. Are you sure of the date? I ask because DIN sockets, although not impossible, would be unusual on something from 1967. I know Grundig and other West German manufacturers did use them, but they weren't standardised till the early Seventies.
According to the link, the original deck would have been a UA15 - the old Monarch with rotary controls, so this is likely a replacement or the radiogram was old stock re-jigged for the market.
Does the cabinet look like the one in the link on post #2?

I think DIN sockets/plugs was very much standard from the 50's already. At least in Germany.
The danish built amplifier in the attached picture is from 1959 and it uses DIN connections only.

Jan

Even if the record deck was already fitted upon export from the GDR, it still could have been "the one that happened to be on stock" as it was a part that would have been imported to the GDR. That could have been a bit like "how about we trade you a 1000 record decks for 10.000 loudspeakers" or even a deal where the US importer just had the record deck manufacturer send a certain number of decks to the manufacturing facility - but maybe the stock ran out and other decks were sent.

If the set was exported incompletely and then fitted with a deck by some importer, it could also have been "the deck of the day".

I'd say if the dates match roughly and there's no evidence of retrofitting, it's probably original.

On the other hand, the lack of power to parts of the set, could have been caused by a retrofit that was never completed properly.

Eastern European manufacturers were certainly still selling valve/tube equipment in 1970, though I didn't know they were exporting to the USA.

However, googling 'Koronette' gets lots of hits, all from the US. There seem to have been a series of these bizarre (to British eyes anyway) combined stereograms/fireplaces/drinks cabinets.

I have a similar situation with a Koronette. I have power to all functions but no sound. I've checked all speaker connections and they look fine. My wife said it did work but as she was listening one day it slowly lost all audio. This sounds like a fuse going bad. I know the tube is working (it gets pretty hot!). I believe at least one of the 3 fuses is bad (the lowest of the three fuses). However the filaments are so difficult to see with my old eyes and they are so fine that the breakage may be toward one of the end caps. I was simply going to replace all three and see if this resolves the problem.

Any other ideas??

Thanks so much.

You're best bet is to buy yourself a Digital Multi Meter (DMM), they're cheap enough, and use it on Ohms range to test the fuses out of circuit.

In terms of getting it "up and running", in the meantime it's not a very good idea to leave the tone arm off its rest as shown in your photo. It will do no good to the stylus cantilever.

That's not sjohnson's player though.

Pleas read the whole thread before posting.
