Default G&C A1800 turntable

Not high end by any means - but has a sentimental attachment

Any suggestions where I can get a belt for a G&C A1800 turntable please?

Or find the dimensions (previous belt broken gone)

Thanks Luke

Hi Luke.

It's GEC by the way, not that they actually made it themselves, of course: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Electric_Company

Almost certainly sourced from Japan or possibly Taiwan etc.

Normal advice with this type of late 1970s deck is to take off the platter; usually it lifts straight off and there are finger holes to help you under the mat. If it's stuck fast, pull up with both hands, support it in the "up" position with your left hand, then use a screwdriver's handle in your right hand to bash the spindle down into its rest position, hopefully freeing itself from the platter in the process.

Then measure the diameter of the "pulley" on the underside of the platter, which will no doubt be c. 200mm.

Finally, order a few flat belts online of that diameter and a bit greater, to see which one fits best. It should be a slack fit around the "pulley" and just taut when it's routed around the motor's pulley too:

Try here: https://cpc.farnell.com/w/c/audio-vi...df_f1002670_bv

Clean the main bearing, lubricate it and the motor bearings (the bottom one may not be accesible), clean the drive surfaces with IPA and off you go...

Not a high-end deck, as you say, but a hundred times better than the plasticy lookalikes BSR were flogging at the same time, IMHO.
