Stylus change interval on BSR TC8M mono cartridge, at 8g tracking force
Anyone have an opinion on 'sensible' replacement intervals for a diamond stylus in this cartridge? I use it for old mono albums, sounds excellent for an ancient crystal cartridge in a radiogram.
Is 1000 hours about average for a tc8 stylus at this tracking weight, or would less be a better option as a general rule? Jason |

Hi Jason, sounds a bit optimistic to me. 1000 hours is normally the kind of life quoted for a modern cartridge tracking at 2 grams. Obviously a worn stylus will damage your records, the only real answer to this is careful listening and a microscope or maybe preemptively changing at 200hours?

It may be not neccessary to track as heavy as 8g on old vinyl. If your vinyl is quite worn with surface marks then you can usually get away with 5g. What tone arm is it in?
