Hi David.
I do remember the amount you had. TBH not as much as Bob has.
The thing is though have you got them all working yet?
I can confidently say that the majority of my stuff all is restored and working, any that were "too far gone" have been dismantled and used for parts, I personally don't see the point of having items that don't work and give you a headache and no pleasure.

Hi Trevor,
You are 100% correct re pleasure from our stuff and no, I do not have them all up and running yet.
Problem was in Scotland I did not have a decent workshop and what time I spent in the main was repairing other folks sets.
Down here is some what better and I have a small workshop that yes, I need to use more to sort some stuff for me.
It is a worry I admit and things are not right for large disposal at present, collection only does seem to put a limiter on and we can only hope the future will improve.

I am sure many of us are in similar positions.

Wow, you must have a huge collection!
I must have around 150 radios, more than 60 TV sets, 6 radiograms and a large quantity of test gear.

To be honest, I really do not want to take it all with me, I am hoping to sell on a good chunk before I move!

Yes indeed, I did a Sony Prestel training course, & still have a an enamel badge to prove it. I used to order all my Sony industrial & Broadcast spares via Prestel, on Sony's Closed User Group system.

Back to the thread, my house is becoming in danger of being overloaded with items to get-around to-it repairs & refurbs! Worse, I rent two stores, that I've had for 19 3/4 years, in the hope of my building a larger store at home.

Maybe I should heed the warnings!

Dave.

Living on my own, when I last did my will I arranged with an emporium I trust to take on the task of disposing of all of my amateur radio gear for a percentage, the remainder to go to charity.
Seemed a good option.

This is a problem we all face and none of us like to think or dwell on our death. I know once we have departed this world the last thing on our minds would be the future of our precious collections and processions. Most of us would hate to think that our treasured radios and tv's would end up being thrown in a skip then taken to the local waste tip.

Like every one else I have built up a large to do pile which I was planning to get around to deal when I retired. That was 15 years ago and the way things have turned out many of us will be working until we are 67 which is seven years ahead for me. Now I find myself asking will I survive another seven years and if I do how much energy and drive will I have to enjoy these repairs and restorations.

I think the solution is to give the family a choice of keeping anything that they fancy, allowing some items that are wanted by other members of this forum or group to collect and the rest to be donated to the BVWS.

This thread has taken an interesting turn, and I hope the mods will allow it to continue although being a little OT.
As executor, I'm just dealing with the estate of a late relative. It's very simple, just a few possessions. But even these are really difficult to dispose of. I'm sure some books and so on would be welcomed by someone, but who? Charity shops are overwhelmed and I'm having to dispose of anything that's not in pristine condition. Sad when you think these must have meant so much to the deceased, but that's how it is.
I'm also selling some items for a late customer's widow - reel to reel recorders and projection equipment, some of which will appear on this forum for sale. But she has no idea what to do with a roomful of specialist books on the Amerivcan Civil war and WW2 including, slightly alarmingly, a mint condition piece of Hitler's personal stationery. But she's in no mental condition to open an eBay shop or whatever.
So I think we owe it to our loved ones to take an inventory and perhaps add a codicil to our wills. In that we could nominate a friend, colleague or even a willing Forum member who could administer the disposal of our apparent junk. After all, a mint 50's woodie must be worth so much more than a grubby Ecko roundie, mustn't it?
