N&K Speaker Deco Artistry
Many pre-war radio cabinets were purely functional boxes but some were designed by the leading architects of the time. I saw this speaker in a local antique market and tried to leave it as it was not cheap but succumbed and returned the next day with a meter to find it was still alive.
It is an N&K German speaker from 1927/28, bakelite front and back and 'cardboard' sides. It just looks like it came off the 'Metropolis' film set and to my eyes is a great example of early Deco design and I love it. It needs some TLC as it has lost most of the inserts that cover the fixings, has a small chip, has a small hole cut out of the cardboard bottom (why?), and the cable has been cut off. Anyone have an idea what to replace those insert with? |
