Default WD Caviar 2420

Not exactly vintage but I need to connect an old Western Digital Caviar 2420 to my current Windows 10 PC?

Not sure what type of connector I need but nothing too expensive as this would be a one-off exercise to copy the drive contents.

It will probably be an IDE drive. How new is your PC? It may have IDE facilities on its motherboard.

Modern mother boards do not usually have a IDE connectors so an adaptor would be needed to convert between IDE and SATA. Here's one possibility

Alternatively you can get a caddy which can accept either SATA or IDE drives and plug into a USB socket on the PC.

For occasional use you don't need a proper caddy, just a USB interface cable. You may need to provide power to the drive from somewhere.

Thanks wave solder - exactly what I'm looking for!

Order placed but need to wait about 3-4 weeks for delivery.

Bit late now but for others contemplating a purchase I bought one of these recently and am very pleased. Ideal way to quickly test that pile of old drives... has its own power supply and allows connection to IDE, SATA, laptop, DVD and CD drives for read/writing through USB. £16.70 on eBay direct from China of course.
I chose a seller who could supply one with a British mains plug.

I have the one used by wave solder, works well. You have to set the drive jumpers to master even though it isn't!
