Default Grundig 2x4 stereo, no rewind

I have a Grundig 2x4 stereo. I have had to repair 2 or 3 split edge connector plugs, and now the machine runs OK, plays OK, fast forward OK, picture search cue and rev OK, but when you select rewind it does nothing and then the tape light starts flashing. If you press tape button then the machine will function again, FF and playback OK, but still no rewind. Also, the modulator has low gain output. Has anyone had this, or do I need to find another modulator? Any ideas. Also, does anyone have a service manual in English, preferably.
Thanks, Simon.

It's an 808, like the one in this picture.

This is the closest service manual I could find by looking on the picture. It is a mono model but the rest electronics should be the same.

It is over thirty five years ago that I worked on these, one of the main problems were the contacts on the deck loading mechanism, if these are not clean making contact and in the correct position all sorts of strange things can happen. I do have a rather rough copy of the 2 x 4 super English manual, which I could if you wanted scan certain pages.
