HMV Radiogram 2346 cabinet light resto
Hi all
My vintage Radiogram is in good condition despite its age. However, at some point in its life someone has sat a wet cup on it and it has left a mark. I do not want really want to sand the top back and re oil as it will be different to the rest of the cabinet, has anybody got any suggestions for a light resto blend in this mark? As you can see from the pics someone has already attempted to remove the mark because if you look at the top from an angle it is slightly duller than the rest of the finish. |

Ok, update on this if useful for others. I have successfully repaired the top to a good standard!
1: Rubbed down top with white spirits and wire wool 2: Wiped off excess white spirit and left to dry 3: Poured on a small pool of Danish oil and wipe over along the grain 4: After 20 mins lightly buffed with a microfibre cloth and that's it! I am quite pleased with the result! |

That's very good! Plus you can give it a top up once a year.
Enjoy listening.

Excellent result. I would have expected Danish oil just to make a sticky mess if rubbed after 20 minutes. Having used it on "strip down" cabinet restoration and to restore a badly oxidised Victorian "slate" clock I am thinking of trying it on a bakelite telephone!
It's good to see that people are valuing these radiograms again.

You can often greatly improve minor water damage by rubbing it with a cutting compound like T-Cut and then applying polish (this is effectively what the wire wool has done in this case). There are specialist cutting products sold for this purpose - I think one is called Ring-Away - but T-Cut or Brasso works just as well.
