Default American Archive of Public Broadcasting

An American friend just sent me a link to this site, promising all manner of wonderful stuff https://americanarchive.org/catalog?...utf8=%E2%9C%93.

Sadly, on trying to look at one feature, it appears that it is only intended to be accessed within the USA? Anyone got any ideas??

I just tried audio-only content and that too is restricted.

You will probably have to use a VPN and pretend you are in the USA.

Perhaps so; I guess it is there for copyright reasons. Just looking through the index, you can find some very interesting stuff on there.

Well I don't know what a VNP is and probably couldn't use it but I do know that they list what they have available "on line" [clearly it's not] are seeking practical help and would like a donation So much for Tim B L and his world wide aspirations If there are "home country restrictions" you'd think that it might be mentioned up front or perhaps I missed something?

I can't get in to play/view anything from Oz either and sites are now getting "VPN smart" and blocking known VPN IP's.

From what I've read, the archive was a project that was a number of years in the making. One thought I've had is that is could be the kind of project that Mr Trump would probably not be keen on?

I already pay for a VPN, so I did a quick check this morning and I can get the videos to play back by setting my location to California. However there's the "Online Reading Room Rules of Use" that need to be agreed to before watching anything, and I rather suspect that using a VPN would be rather frowned upon.

From their Terms of Use:

"International Users

Which says either maybe, or no.

Some American sites geoblock access from European IPAs because their setups don't comply with EU privacy laws (cookie permissions etc.) and they can't be bothered to make themselves compliant.

Out of curiosity I tried to access this site using Winscribe to give me a US location and I was able to access the videos. I had to clear the cache on my browser, shift F5, first. Winscribe is a VPN service that gives you a free small monthly allowance useful to occasionally access such sites that require a non European location.

The Opera browser gives a free VPN which covers USA.
