Re: Has Anyone Still Got A Home Built TV ?
We have a working Argus at the museum and a recent donation of a very well built VCR97 type that is at the moment awaiting attention. In my personal collection of junk I have 'The Practical Television Receiver' of 1949/50 [Practical Television] 9" that is not yet restored, A 12" Viewmaster that works OK but needs fitting in the cabinet that David kindly built for me, the one acquired very recently to be restored in the not too distant future, the 9" 'Electronic Engineering' from around 1950. These were probably the best of the home constructed models that were available at the time. 'ELPREC' produced a couple of kit sets but never caught on like the very successful Viewmaster. John.

Hi Bob
I've got a view master table model. I've had this for a long time and only kept it because the guy who built it did an excellent job. It's not been restored yet. |

Re: Has Anyone Still Got A Home Built TV ?
I remember meeting a gentleman at a car show in 2018/2019 who was building an Argus from scratch.
I think he was going to use an oscilloscope CRT in it. I never knew if he was on this forum. |

I remember it mentiononed another thread that Duke's of Romford Road sold kit sets, which were often just a valveless reconditioned chassis & CRT, with purchasers expected to supply their own case.

Re: Has Anyone Still Got A Home Built TV ?
I have an Argus, which I built in 1990. A few years ago, I fitted it with the magnifier - as shown. Being an electrostatically deflected set, it readily adapts to a multiplicity of standards. Currently it shows anything between 120 and 240-lines, but I intend to return it to 405-lines shortly.

Re: Has Anyone Still Got A Home Built TV ?
Sadly I’ve got nothing vintage home built here, but I have still got 3 of my own home built sets, well, more rehoused in my own cabinets! One was a 4” black and white tv that was originally part of a TV/radio/cassette player thing that was in a very rusty state after having lived under a hedge for a number of years, did that when I was still at school, so it looks a bit rubbish! The other 2 are LCD monitors, built up from random panels and driver PCB’s from China, one is housed in a nice folded aluminium case, it was made rugged to go with a DSLR camera.
I’ve probably got enough bits by now to build a 405 line TV! Regards Lloyd |

I have a few kits from Belgium.
A "Pro Radio" in a metal case, a MBLE and a D.K. and a Socora. All are made in the 50s. The Pro Radio was available in France, too. Regards, German Dalek

Re: Has Anyone Still Got A Home Built TV ?
A bit more recently, 'Television' magazine features two project colour receivers at each end of the Seventies, one hybrid and the other solid state with, surprisingly, a thyristor line output stage if I remember correctly. Both a bit before my time. Also a monochome portable to be built at home. Anyone still got one?
Also Forgestone made a couple of kits; the one I nearly bought was solid state apart from a PL/PY line output stage. Never saw one in the flesh. |

Re: Has Anyone Still Got A Home Built TV ?
Me too. Both horizontal scan and colour. The one on the left: 30 line. The one at centre: 120-line.

I have my recent home made 405 line TV, but certainly nothing that would stand in the corner with pride and be watched by the family.
