Default The School Girl Who Helped Win A War!

This is vintage but not Radio although there are similarities perhaps with the female American Film Star [Hedy Lammar] who came up with a signalling system during WW2 for the Navy that is the basis of modern Internet comms and has been mentioned a few times here.

When the Hurricane and Spitfire Aircrafts were being designed a Mathematician [Fred Hill] wanted to prove that 4 guns would be inadequate and that it needed 8. With a new calculating device he worked on the problem in his London flat using the kitchen table and enlisting the help of his thirteen year old daughter [Hazel] with the graphs and computations! I happened to see a trail for this yesterday. It's being shown on the BBC 24 Hour News Channel at 1-30pm Xmas Eve but is available now from their on-line schedule. Worth a watch. Her sons still have the table
