Hello Martin,

The two half tube clamps must be metal as you need a good contact between the two halves of the main loop.. The loop is only open at the top inside the drum, the two thick joining arches (semicircular clamps) join the two bottom ends of the main half loops.

The bolts go through the two holes nearest the small holes intended for mounting the pick up loop on the mounting bracket. these should be at the top of the bracket. These bolts are put in from the flanged side of the bracket and are secured by nuts. Next comes one of the semi-circular clamps, then the main loop tubes followed by the second semi-circular clamp. The remaining nuts tighten the assembly on the mounting bracket.

The U bolts are only used to hold the mounting bracket to the vertical pole. There will be room between the loop and the mounting bracket to run the tuning supply cable if you have put it together correctly.

In your original photo, the mounting bracket is shown upside down. The small pick up loop is mounted via the two small holes which should be at the top. The pick up loop will sit inside the main loop when mounted correctly.

Yes, that's great, thanks Paula. I will lay the components out again on the living room carpet and have a closer look. The 48mm U-bolts at the bottom for the supporting pole, which appears to be 38mm diameter based on the hole size in the capacitor box and the 38mm top U-bolt size, made me wonder if something else was missing.

So, from what you are saying, there is no issue having a conductive supporting pole electrically connected to the main loop at the bottom and running up vertically in the centre of the main loop, past the capacitor vanes, stopping 5mm or less above the top clamp...
