Commodore SR-1800
I have a Commodore SR-1800 that has a crack in the case just above the power jack that no amout of super glue will mend.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: Commodore SR-1800
Epoxy maybe? Maplin sell a fast setting version that ive used for a variety of projects, try applying it on the backside instead so you can spread it around and leave the outside looking relatively nice.

Re: Commodore SR-1800
Thanks but as you can see the outside is a bit of a mess so that would need cleaning up first.

Re: Commodore SR-1800
Hi
From what I can remember of these, the back is just screwed on, so dismantling is no problem (the screws may be under the rubber feet.) The instructions for my hot glue gun say the glue will repair most types of plastics, so that may be the way to go. Apply the glue to the inside of the case. Make sure the area is clean, using IPA or meths, before applying the glue. Good Luck Regards ALAN |

Re: Commodore SR-1800
Milliput is what modellers use, it is a sort of plastercine that sets hard.
Should think those hobby shops on every retail estate these days will sell it. |

Re: Commodore SR-1800
I think Milliput will be the easiest to apply.
Cheers.

Re: Commodore SR-1800
I was going to suggest polystyrene cement for plastics but Milliput sounds interesting enough.
A problem now may be the remains of the superglue in the crack, superglue is great for sticking fingers and anything else with a bit of moisture but is very poor on most plastics, especially the ones that feel waxy to the touch. |
