Default Shed some light, please.

Hi again, yes still buying more rubbish.

So could anyone shed a little light on this industrial shade? I have looked and cannot seem to match it up with others about; I would like to know what type of fitting it was designed for if possible.

I have a couple of Anglepoise, but they are industrial green workshop ones and have slightly smaller shades.
It has a 1⅛" top hole and 6ΒΌ" across the base.

I pulled it out of a antique shop, it's new old stock, any help appreciated. I know it's not anything special, but I like the old industrial stuff.

Could it be be a photographic spot/modelling lamp, perhaps? How is the reflective side treated?

Hi Keith,

They are shades that can be used as Machinists lamps. but are actually ex WD lampshades, that have been used in all sorts of differing locations.

I would be interested to know where you found it, and if there were any more there.

Cheers
Sean

I did think twice about getting them or not, I even walked out the shop, as most vintage stuff inside was over priced.
As they have never been used I couldn't say no.
I have a nice Machinists lamp over my Myford and I know what thats worth, so I will look into getting some fitting and put them to use.

My green enamel workbench lamp was given to me by 'Lenny' an old T.V. engineer when I was a 12 year old lad. It has followed me around to what I expect to be it's final resting place.

The smaller lamp was pulled off the tip years ago and illuminates my grinder and old pillar drill in the 'mechanical' workshop.

Really well made kit somehow reflecting the lighting employed in thousands of factories in the 20th century.

They have become 'cult' items today used to decorate trendy flats, alas not a workbench as was originally intended. Cheers, John.

I had a similar metal bench lamp, similar to John's, but left it behind during our last move.

At some point in its history, it had been painted black, but as the paint had started to peel away, it could been seen covering a green enamel shade. The name 'Revo' was etched into it. I understand Revo we responsible for manufacturing all sorts of light fittings at that time. I suspect they could have produced yours, Keith, but if these are ex WD, then they would not have imprinted their name on them.

Should have taken it with me ...

I didn't realize just how many of these green enamel shades I actually had in service.
The one on the battery charger shelf has the word 'MAXILUME' on the shade.
I have three others under cover but outside. The name BURGOYNES comes to mind but I may be wrong.
Their used to be a very old haulage yard in New Malden. The main yard was lit externally by these shades on swan necks from the the workshop walls. They used to have similar fittings swaying in the wind and rain. Very 1930's and it's odd how these simple everyday things stick in your mind.
John.

Revo did other electrical appliances too: I can remember my parents having a "Revo Regal" electric cooker in the 1960s.
