Default Unusual Room Heater

My 90 year-old neighbour has a very unusual room heater which she bought 30 years ago from a local department store. The heater resembles a byzantine tower and is approx 1 metre tall and is constructed of brass and wrought iron. Inside it has a single bulb for illumination through the lattice-type surface and a weird element which has failed.

The element is 44cm long, constructed of steel like a cooker element but comprises a 7cm diameter, 26cm long spiral and two straight 18cm legs to the + and - terminals.

Has anyone come across anything similar? I don't have a photo but I can take one if anyone thinks they have an idea where such things might be obtained.

Thanks

Definitely not one I've heard of, sounds interesting and definitely worth a photo. Is the element an open type or glass (silica?) enclosed? If it's an open wound element it's possible that it could be re-wound with a bit of care if a replacement can't be sourced.

It doesn't sound like either silica sheath or open wound from this description. More like steel sheathed mineral insulated resistance wire.

It's not a Belling Champion is it (google for image)?

Couldn't be a Belling Champion. A Belling Champion is hardly 'unusual'!

Hi Graham,

Does it look anything like this Belling convector?
