Does anyone know where I can get some of the above mentioned bulbs?? I have tried all the places I know and some I didn't know they seem as rare as hens teeth these days.............

Thanks Dave I've got some of those but it needs to go in a series chain and it doesn't pass enough current to light the chain up............

How about a few in parallel or a resistor the same way across one?

Would a bulb for a Maglite Solitaire single-cell torch do the job? I just measured the current as 200mA when supplied with 1.5V from a Farnell stabilised power supply.

You might get them in a camping shop, but they are not cheap: the last ones I bought a couple of years ago cost £2.59 for a pack of 2 from "Blacks" London Holborn shop near Chancery Lane tube. Part No 107-000-187.

How many bulbs are there in total in the chain and what is the supply voltage?

Regards,

Dave.

Hi Dave, there are 16 bulbs in the chain supplied by 24 volt AC, at the moment I have shorted the bulb position out and the chain is working OK but obviously the other bulbs are overloaded by .1 of a volt I would prefer to run them at the correct voltage or slightly under in the interests of extended bulb life.

I forgot to ask how much current there is flowing in the chain!

Regards,

Dave.

Would it be viable to replace all the lamps in the series chain with the ones linked to ?
Not certain what the current of the ones linked to is, it SAYS 1.5ma but that is obviously a typo, I would suspect 150ma.

Or what about 6 volt lamps in series groups of three ?

If useing the Maglite solitare lamps, be aware that these are designed for about 1.2 volts, the average on load voltage of a single alkaline cell. They wont last long at a continual 1.5 volts.
Even at 1.2 volts the life is unlikely to exceed a few dozen hours.
For continuall use, less than 1 volt would be advisable.

For relatively modern equipment, LEDs might be a better choice, but for anything vintage, original or if not available something similar would be better.

Still rather curious about the current- not to mention the application- just for interest?
