Re: prevents tape spillage
I think they may have been used with 8mm cine film as well, but I don't know the name or supplier.

Re: Device which prevents tape spillage?
Scotch (3M) used to do them, I doubt they do now.
Bit of a mixed blessing in my opinion, if the tape is not evenly wound they can damage the edge. |

Re: Device which prevents tape spillage?
They came with 8mm film after processing. As the spools are the same size some people used them with
tape, but not the best idea as pointed out above , they can damage the edge of the tape. |

Re: Device which prevents tape spillage?
The Scotch ones were made specifically for tape, I was given a pack of 10 by my uncle circa 1964 - I think he got them from the GPO. I stopped using them fairly quickly as the spooling on my Collaro studio deck was not that good.

Re: Device which prevents tape spillage?
I use a small pad of foam rubber about an inch long and maybe 3/8" square which just jams in between the reel cheeks with just sufficient tension to hold itself in place, where it just traps the end of the tape.

Re: Device which prevents tape spillage?
Hi,
I put the end of the leader tape in the splicing block and do a perpendicular cut about 2 inches from the end. Spread the cut so there is a 5 mm gap and then cover the gap with splicing tape. The end of the tape is then stuck down and the very end which is free is easy to grab when using/playing the tape. It is quite a few plays before the splicing tape loses it's adhesion. No damage to the tape what so ever!! Cheers Alphonse |

Re: Device which prevents tape spillage?
Hi,
I use a little strip of card from a cereal packet. About 1 1/2" x 1/4" and bent into a U shape, then slipped between the edges of the tape and the reel. Cheers, Pete.

Re: Device which prevents tape spillage?
I use a strip cut from a 3M post it note to stick the end of the tape down as it leaves no residue and is quick to remove using the non sticky end.
