Re: Revox A-700
Also, sometimes a meter movement can be repaired. I've been successful in some cases. A watchmaker or someone skilled in fine, delicate repair work may be able to do this. Sometimes glues used in original manufacture let go and new glue needs to be carefully applied after realigning the relevant parts. A steady hand as well as lots of patience helps. Probably not for novices!

Re: Revox A-700
Hi
Yes I was looking at a Russian set of photos, where he took one side of the VU meter out, so that gave me an idea, look for a VU meter. The one on the right is working, and on the left the VU meter is not working. So anyone out there have a good right meter they want to sell? All the best from Alan |

As posters say - rare as hen's teeth. And v hard to fix. Watch maker country... A700s are not that wide-spread hence the lack of parts - I took 6 months to find the feet for mine.

Re: Revox A-700
I agree with you, but I might be more lucky getting a meter with one side working, against both working... have to try...

Re: Revox A-700
Update to this issue, I saw an ad for an LED meter replacement for the A700. Unfortunately I cant recall who the vendor was. Try a Google search.

Re: Revox A-700
Revox-Online have new replacements for a mere 260 Euro...I'm not sure if the LED jobbie made it into production.

Re: Revox A-700
Just seeking a little more detail from Stewartrose. Have you removed the meter unit from the machine? Are you certain it is the meter itself that is at fault rather than the driver circuitry or wiring?
Assuming the problem is the meter, can you measure the resistance of each meter's terminals with a digital multimeter? If they measure the same or close to it, that means the delicate moving coil is intact as well as the connections through the hairsprings right up to the outside terminals. There's more hope of a repair in that case. As already mentioned, if your aim is simply to monitor record levels, a generic stereo LED bar strip and matching driver circuit could be custom installed. An alternative is a similar style of analogue stereo meter, probably needing some mods to adapt but of course not the original look. See photo. |
