Don't attempt to separate the coils and the tube - they are a matched unit and can be swapped as such. Much easier than the old days of endless converging!

Thanks. I'm still unsure as to the full extent of what the original engineer did. I know he twisted some things (which I think effected the overscan), and soldered a bit here and there. Whatever he did, it got it working again for a very short time before it took a faster downturn.
I'm not sure if the downturn was caused by what he did, or a coincidence.
Hopefully this new tube can be fitted without problems from anything he did elsewhere in the unit.

As we've all said earlier, do check he hasn't shorted out the heater coils. A photo of the tube base (both sides) will help us determine if that's the case.

I'm not sure how to upload photos on here, and can't really get access to the back of the set currently. Everything's still in a big mess in the house on accont of the daamge from the leak and my now 2 year fight with the insurance company for doing me out of my cover and leaving me in this state. I am hoping to take the two sets into the repair place in a couple of weeks time though, so fingers crossed everything goes back together fine and whatever the cowboy did doesn't carry across and damge the replacement tube in any way

I wouldn't worry - any engineer of a certain age will know immediately what has and hasn't been done.

What do I need by the way of screws for this set, to attach it to a stand? I'm hoping to get a custom trolley stand made when I get it back fixed, a bit higher than the normal ones, which will allow me room for my v2000 underneath the cross bar amongst other things.

Does the set need custom screws, or is it something I can just get anywhere? Thanks

If it has screw holes, they're likely to be metric thread. M6?

I think so, but remember they are quite short, perhaps only 20mm. BEAB regulations mean that the top of the receptor has been sealed, so longer screws won't go past the closure.

would they be flat at the ends? I'll have to measure the holes when I can.

Yes, just ordinary threaded screws/bolts.
