Default Mystery Valve

Has anyone seen a valve like this before?

It's a standard Octal base.

The lettering reads:
STC
C 285
100
SEP-60

Yes I'd say it looks like a quartz crystal. Quite a low-frequency one I'd guess. I wonder if the '100' in the part number means 100KHz? O r the 285 means 285KHz?

[wasn't 285KHz the IF for the old 38-set?]

It looks like a CdS photocell to me.
But hard to tell from photos.

Looks like a photo cell to me as well. Used in 16mm sound projectors.

A simple test will reveal if it's a photo cell. I was in a similar situation recently see my thread

A quartz crystal, probably 100 kHz.
