Old VCRs - are there any still available?
Does anyone know if there are still firms that buy(usually for about £2 each- it used to be) scrap VCRs & TVs. I have several left over from days when I used to repair them, mainly portable colour TVs, plus several VCRs from the early 90s, none in (full)working order. There used to be companies that would pay a few pounds each for such things, which were then used for educationaal/training purposes, but maybe advancing technology has put an end to that

Re: Old VCRs
Hi
I think those days are over. Don't forget tubes are now hazardous waste and cost money to dispose of - hope you haven't got too many or you'll need a good few trips to the recycling centre and hope the bloke there's got a bad memory! VCRs and the rest of the TVs are not hazardous - yet - but next year they will be. I think a spring clean's in order. Sad, but that's the way the world's gone! Glyn |

Re: Old VCRs
The trouble is everybody is getting rid of VCRs at the moment in the mad dash to digital , At recent bootsales I've seen dozens of the things, some virtually new, Even at £2 a throw, guaranteed working, there are no takers......... .

Re: Old VCRs
I have found 4 VCRs in as many months. All have been cosmetically perfect, all have been fairly recent models, and all have worked perfectly straight away, with not even a deck service being required.
So no, I don't think scrappers have any value these days Nick. |

Re: Old VCRs
A quick reply to one and all- I assumed that the situation would be as you have all said. Shall have to strip out anything of use- that's another of those 'time and inclination' jobs, I guess!! DVD Players are going the same way, too, with new ones at about £25 or so. And, yes I know about the new legislation coming in. Looks like quite a few items willl end up at the local recycling centre
