Default Defiant transistor radio

Hi All Dave here!!

I just picked up this vintage radio for a auto jumble today! What you people think??

So I want to power it up but is got to 2 sets of wires for what would be the old 4.5v battery’s how do I convert it to run with a 9v battery?

And any Curcit diagrams would be amazing!

Thanks

Dave .

Do you have a model number of the set or have you information that the set uses 4.5v batteries?
Rather than try to use a 9 volt battery, if they are 4.5V, you could use 2 sets of 3x AA batteries. Holders are available for AA batteries, it would keep the radio original.

I can't think of a Defiant model that used separate 4.5V batteries - Perdio did in various of their models, and flat hand-lamp 4.5V batteries were popular on the Continent - but several Defiants were designed for the 4.5+4.5V PP11, essentially a PP9 in two sections. Standard colour code for the battery wiring was red positive, black negative, green for the mid point.

Yes, we need a model number and some pictures (a picture speaks 1000 words)! You can't always just 'modify' something to work on a different supply. If it uses a centre-tapped supply (4.5 + 4.5) it might not be easy. Certainly you cant just wire in a 9V battery if that is the case.

There is a thread here which shows you the modification. I haven't done it to my A55 yet, still running on 2 x 4.5V batteries.
