Workshop clearance
Hi Folks,
A dear family friend passed recently and the family has asked me to liquidate what was left of his electronic repair business. I have attached a few photographs but there is a lot more stuffed in cupboards etc. My question is it worth anything of should I leave it for the house clearance, I would prefer not to see it in landfill? Its located near Portsmouth Hampshire united kingdom |

Re: Workshop clearance
There looks nothing of major value apart from what looks like a bit of HP test gear and maybe what's on top of it, picture two. Your best bet is to take some better pics of each item and a random selection of components in the drawers and put a post in the For sale section, I'm sure someone will be interested and give you a better idea of what you have.
Andy.

Re: Workshop clearance
If you offer for sale you must state an exact price unless the proceeds are to a charity.
Valuations are always subjective and the highest prices are likely to be achieved on an online auction like eBay. The components are likely of interest as well. Its always sad when a friend passes away like this and it would be a shame if his stuff ended up in landfill. Cheers Mike T

Re: Workshop clearance
Maybe nothing of major value but it does all have a reasonable value.
Most of it would sell if posted on the forum, the test equipment would certainly all sell. The problem is that the forum rules require an exact price. As Andy says better photos would enable members to give you a better guide price. Peter |

Re: Workshop clearance
That's a HP 3312A function generator, the last analog one they made.

Re: Workshop clearance
As said, nothing there of huge value but some items will attract interest. You could put items on eBay with a low start, collection only, and see what people are prepared to pay. Anything you don't want to bother with (like boxes of random small components) you could offer on here and ask for an appropriate voluntary charity donation - that is allowed under the forum rules. You could do the same with anything that doesn't sell on eBay.
The big drawback with selling individual items on eBay is the work involved. A local forum member may be prepared to visit and advise you on assembling packs of components for disposal. |

Re: Workshop clearance
Ahh sorry - yes the family would be more than happy to accept a donation to our local cat charity.

Re: Workshop clearance
If anyone gets this lot and doesn’t want the scope then I would like it (working or not) please.

Re: Workshop clearance
Hi, and thanks for going to the effort of joining the forum and posting about these items. The two Thurlby power supplies pictured are popular and useful items of workshop test equipment and should be of (hopefully local) interest to some here.

Re: Workshop clearance
Those “RS” grey storage drawers might be popular too.

Re: Workshop clearance
There may be interesting things in them too. No way of knowing without a site visit of course.

Re: Workshop clearance
I thought that too, it must seem strange to some people what attracts us. Must be worth a decent donation, especially with the lucky dip contents.

Re: Workshop clearance
I'm certainly interested in the larger (any that are bigger than the 'basic' smallest size) RS component drawers. I've been asking for them on here for years. I'll pay good money and postage.

Re: Workshop clearance
I echo Hamish Boxer's recommendation. Non of the stuff shown could be called junk. Surely, there must be quite a number of Forum &/or BVWS folk down on the South Coast, some of whome could help mrsteel to clear out the nice wee workshop. Monetary donations could be made, &/or stuff taken to BVWS Swapmeets/Auctions, etc. Fannying about with loads of individual items on eBay, is burdensome.
Regards, David PS. Coincidently, I'm off later today to assess a "Silent Key" collection. As I get older, I get more upset on these occasions. TBFTGOG, go I ! |

Re: Workshop clearance
Normally I would have been delighted to help but I have done 4 in the last two years and still have not started to pass the last one off yet.
Busy at work and selling my weekday hideaway have all contributed to my lack of time. There are members in the Portsmouth area. Cheers Mike T
