Default Ekco T510

Hi all,

Well a couple of days ago I was at one of my favourite places to pick up old tellies and in the back of the shop what did I see? a dual standard Ekco TV.

As you may know I love Ekco so I had to have it. I asked the shop owner about the set and he said it had been switched on and it was fine, so I asked if I could see for myself. A perfect picture, the set is unrestored and almost perfect. 405 works but there is no picture or line whistle until you thump the set; why would this be, dry joints?

I ran the set all day Friday no faults popped up and yesterday I watched a bit of Doctor Who and this morning more Dr Who.

Oh and I'm looking for a volume knob.

Here are some pictures.

Hello,

It uses the Pye "67" dual standard hybrid chassis.

Regards,

Well the set sort of works but with my new Aurora plugged in the set doesn't produce a test card or tone. All that can be seen is a blank raster. Any ideas what my problem could be?

Thanks for any help.

That's a good find.

Maybe the channel setting on the Aurora needs changing. I have a GEC BT302 that only has three biscuits in the tuner and it works on one channel only, 5 I think.

You will have to check what channels the tuner unit is set to. Plastic pegs on the rear select the bands depending on how they are positioned. It's a long time since i tuned one of these receivers but I think you will find the problem with the peg positions. J.

Is this the chassis with the solenoid-operated system switch? If so, it's probably disconnected. It was spring-loaded to 405, and returned there between every change of channel, leading to all manner of connection problems as the set grew old.

Well I'm going to look a right moron but when fine tuning the set the peg that turns the tuning coil has jammed the dial and I need to remove the tuner. But this is the silly bit; I have no idea how to remove the dial

There is a 'brown' Paxolin peg that can be seen in your picture that fits into a slot in the tuner spindle. Slide a thin steel ruler or similar between the knob and the front of the cabinet and push the thin end of the peg inwards. It is under slight spring presure, then pull the knob off. J.

If you can make any sense from this set up sheet Scott, your a genius! I found it loose in the PYE manual folders. It may help...Cheers, John.
P.S. Another sheet showing the number of turns required on the fine tuner to change the channels. J.
