Side contact valve socket 'cure'.
Hi having cleaned the contacts and valve contacts on a side contact valve socket then I was plagued by an intermittent contact, by getting the valve in a certain place then it would be OK. This was not good. The valve seemed to be loose, the contacts were not broken but the socket was not easy to get to on either side ( top or bottom.) I really did not fancy bending the contacts so went for what some people would consider a bodge I guess.
A piece of 2mm plastic sheet ( polycarbonate in this case.) was cut to the size of a 10p piece and dropped into the socket the theory being that if the valve was raised a little then that should improve the contact pressure on the valve. Complete success, valve firm and and no sign of being intermittent. Cheers. Geoff. |
